{"id":231787,"date":"2021-03-02T13:46:04","date_gmt":"2021-03-02T13:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.roadxs.com\/?p=231787"},"modified":"2024-06-26T15:11:41","modified_gmt":"2024-06-26T14:11:41","slug":"tackling-rural-isolation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.roadxs.com\/insights\/tackling-rural-isolation\/","title":{"rendered":"Tackling Rural Isolation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rural isolation is a growing problem especially as rural communities have become more and more isolated in recent times.\u00a0 This is mainly down to the fact that schools and hospitals were not designed to be accessible easily by bus or train.\u00a0 Bus routes and their decline has hit the young, unemployed and elderly the hardest.<\/p>\n<p>There is a greater need than ever to ensure people are not trapped in their own homes.\u00a0 England\u2019s lowest income earners also make up 75% of their <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadxs.com\/transport\/why-is-public-transport-better-for-the-environment\/\">public transport<\/a> trips via bus.\u00a0 Essentially this means the lower income group make up three times as many bus trips as high income earners in the UK.\u00a0 Across the country, 9% of UK households have low incomes but then have high motoring costs on top.\u00a0 This makes it even more difficult to drive and many often opt for the cheaper option of the bus, despite rising fares and reduced options.<\/p>\n<p>Without a way of getting where they need to be, these members of our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadxs.com\/transport\/community-transport\/what-is-community-transport\/\">community are essentially<\/a> cut off.\u00a0 The cuts highlight the importance of transport networks and how important it is to find solutions to an ever-growing problem.\u00a0 The knock-on effect of not being able to get to places are increased depression and a decreased sense of well-being through a poorer quality of life.\u00a0 Believe it or not humans are social creatures and without seeing our friends and engaging in the community our standard of living drops considerably \u2013 yes, even though you can now get Netflix and Facetime people half-way across the world!<\/p>\n<p>The impact of losing a strong <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadxs.com\/community-transport-costs\">transport network in your local community<\/a> is far more damaging than the journey itself.\u00a0 Road XS is all about enabling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadxs.com\/features\/\">routes to operate efficiently<\/a> and to help save costs for transport providers.
